About Dani Foster
About Dani Foster
“You haven’t truly heard your own story told until you feel it in someone else’s song.”
From simple and optimistic to complex yet captivating, a sucker-punch to the emotions or ingrained with old irony, there is something in honest to goodness damn-good song writing that gets you. Every time.
Right?
That’s why we love Tracy Chapman, Fleetwood Mac and Bob Marley. It’s why we over analyse Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Bjork.
The music of a real face-to-face songwriter can encase us in a new reality of imagination. The lyrics plot out our empathic journey for three minutes of inner exploration. And we never return quite the same as before. You learned something about yourself in there.
That’s where great music takes us, where we go when songwriters lock on and open up their minds to us.
And that is the experience seeing the words “Dani Foster live” brings to mind.
Her song-writing is the ‘real deal’; world class, witty, stylistically and technically well-rounded and full of the resonance of honest human experience. She distils any combination of modern music styles, including unique African flavours, into a smooth acoustic artisanal blend.
Dani’s childhood in South Africa taught her to always emulate and appreciate the multifaceted cultural influences and intricacies of her musical surroundings.
Upon prioritising music as her career path, she decided to travel and explore international music markets and cultures.
She studied vocals and song-writing/composition at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and at The British and Irish Modern Music Institute UK, Brighton Campus for a total of 4 years. She earned a Higher Diploma in Contemporary Vocal Performance and a BA Honours Degree in Song-writing First Class, before returning home to South Africa and continuing her professional music career in Durban in late 2015.
Whilst studying, she also completed her Debut album, Open Spaces (now available on iTunes) at Northwind Recording Studios with award winning producer Nik Fairclough.
The album was launched in Durban, SA and Brighton, UK followed by a video launch with two music videos shot in Dublin, Ireland, with renowned arts videographer and director Cale Glendenning (USA).
Dani recently completed independent tours throughout the UK and Europe in mid 2015 and 2016 and is currently working on her next EP, which she hopes to release as a series of live-in-studio videos.
